“I Asked… I Received.”

A Quest For Truth, Soul Seeds

I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given Christ that I might be rich.

I asked for healing that I might be in control;
I was allowed to suffer that I might surrender.

I asked for independence that I might do my own will;
I was given free will that I might choose obedience.

I asked for strength that I might be self sufficient;
I was made weak that I might depend on Him.

I asked for the world’s love that I might be fulfilled;
I renounced idolatry, as my value and worth are in Him.

I asked for knowledge that I might impress men;
I grew in wisdom that I might learn His commands.

I asked for success that I might achieve the praise of others;
I was allowed to struggle that I might praise His name instead.

I asked to remain sheltered, that my life be hid in secrecy;
My life was exposed that I might learn to love and trust sacrificially.

I asked for no more tears after a lifetime of suffering;
He gave His Son, who was slain, to save my soul.

Soul Seeds…

“I asked for all things that I might enjoy life – I was given life that I might enjoy all things.”

“He who finds his life shall lose it. And he who loses his life for My sake shall find it.” Matt 10:39

    I love this.
    It is all so true. I remember years ago saying to my husband, “Why do you think so many inmates give their hearts to Jesus?” They are often the worst of the worst. I believe it is because they have fallen flat on their faces and all too often, only then does one reach up to seek Him. While those who have seemingly smooth happy lives don’t feel the need for a Savior!
    I praise God that He has brought me through so much so that I may rejoice in Him!(not that I have been in jail but you know what I mean…..) we MUST humble ourselves before His throne!!!!
    Wonderful post!

      I really appreciate your comments and I completely agree. I have done some work in prisons as well and always thought that to be the case. Also, some of us are so stubborn and prideful, being brought to our knees may be the only way we learn submission! (although, we still have a choice at that point, but perhaps it’s why we’re allowed to be exposed to Satan’s schemes while we’re on this earth) If you’re interested, check out my tags under “purpose of pain” to see similar poems and views on this.

      Have a happy New Year and many blessings to you, new friend!
